Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children Installs Historic Commemorative Stone Found During Construction
Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children recently installed in front of its main entrance a historic commemorative stone that was found during construction of the Diamond Head Tower. Etched with the dates 1874-1929 and March 26, the stone represents a time of great historical significance for Hawaii's only full-service medical center specializing in the care of women and children, which was founded by Queen Kapiolani.

Straub was named one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for General Surgery, and all three medical centers were recognized as 5-Star recipients for clinical achievement in various specialty areas.
Two Hawaii Pacific Health Medical Centers Achieve Elite National Recognition from The Leapfrog Group for Patient Safety
Pali Momi Medical Center and Straub Medical Center achieved straight ‘A’s in The Leapfrog Group’s Fall 2018 Hospital Safety Grade. With the Hospital Safety Grades, Leapfrog assigns an A, B, C, D or F grade to hospitals across the country based on how safe they are for patients. Straub has received an A rating since the program’s inception in 2012, while this is the third consecutive year that Pali Momi has received an A.
Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children Honors Dr. Wallace Matthews with its Outstanding Physician Award
Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children recently honored pediatric pulmonologist Dr. Wallace Matthews with its Outstanding Physician Award. Only four physicians have received this prestigious award since it was established in July 1992. Recognized for his outstanding and distinguished contributions in the areas of patient care, education and service, Matthews has been a member of Kapiolani’s medical staff for more than 35 years.
Hawaii Walmart and Sam's Club Stores Raise $276,831 for Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children
Helping kids live better really matters for Walmart and Sam's Club associates, customers and members in Hawaii who in just six weeks raised $276,831 for Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children. The Hawaii campaign results are a 19 percent increase from last year and come when the national campaign reaches a major milestone mark. Walmart and Sam’s Clubs across the country and Canada have now cumulatively raised more than $1 billion for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals since the fundraising effort began in 1987.
Wilcox Health Aims to Keep Staff, Patients Safe from Flu with Immunization Policy
Effective Monday, Oct. 15, all health care personnel at Wilcox Medical Center and Kauai Medical Clinic will either be immunized for influenza or will wear a mask when in designated patient care areas at the medical center and clinic locations. This new flu immunization policy is designed to help prevent the spread of the flu and keep patients and health care personnel safe.
Hawaii Pacific Health Employees Donate More Than $1 Million to Fund Company's Philanthropic Mission
Hawaii Pacific Health employees showed their giving power by donating their own money to help patients and patient families by raising a record $1,070,115 for the 2018 Employee Giving Campaign. This is the second straight year that Hawaii Pacific Health has surpassed the $1 million mark. The total raised was collected over a one-month period through personal gifts and pledges by more than 4,000 staff members.
Hawaii Pacific Health Announces Inaugural High School Partners for Innovative Medical Assistant Training Program
Hawaii Pacific Health has partnered with Kapiolani Community College and five local public high schools to create the Hawaii Pacific Health Medical Assistant Training Program. The unique partnership, believed to be the only one of its kind in the country, is a joint program between Hawaii Pacific Health and the local high schools to create a curriculum for high school juniors and seniors to prepare them for a career as a medical assistant in the health care industry.
Festive Finish for the Ko Olina Children's Festival as Community Raises $65,000 for Kapiolani Medical Center
The 5th annual Ko Olina Children's Festival was one big fiesta benefiting Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children. More than 2,000 people attended, and contributions from the Ko Olina Resort Association along with 100 percent of proceeds from ticket sales resulted in a $65,000 donation presented to Kapiolani, which is the highest amount raised in the event’s five-year history. Over the past five years, a total of $275,000 has been raised by the Ko Olina Children’s Festival for Kapiolani to help support Hawaii’s only maternity, newborn and pediatric specialty hospital.
12th Annual Kapiolani Radiothon for Kids Raises Record High $289,334
The 2018 Kapiolani Radiothon for Kids, a benefit for Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children in partnership with KSSK 92.3 FM/AM 590, raised a total of $289,334.18 during the two-day radio broadcast. It is the highest amount ever raised in the 12-year history of the event, with funds supporting the medical center's Miracle Moments Wish List of items that support everyday needs for patients.

Kapiolani Medical Center and Levine Children's Hospital in North Carolina Unveil Discharge Trains for Pediatric Patients Donated by Maui Resident
Pediatric patients at Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children and Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, North Carolina, now have miniature trains to ride in when leaving the hospital thanks to a donation from Maui resident Bob Douglas who thought children deserved a special sendoff to celebrate their road to recovery on their way home. Unfortunately, the 82-year-old from Maui was not able to see his dream come true as he died of cancer two months before the scheduled launch.
Wilcox Medical Center Unveils New State-of-the-Art Simulation Lab
Wilcox Medical Center unveiled its new simulation lab that features high-tech manikins to play the role of patients in various medical scenarios for nurse education and training. The only training facility of its kind on Kauai, the lab will allow Wilcox nurses to practice comprehensive clinical situations in a realistic and risk-free environment.
