Family Practice Medicine
Family medicine physicians focus on the personal and comprehensive care of patients and families of all ages. They use their unique training and knowledge to understand and address all aspects of a patient's medical, social and emotional needs. Family physicians diagnose and treat medical illnesses, provide preventive care such as annual checkups and health risk assessments, and provide guidance on maintaining a healthy lifestyle. In addition, they manage chronic conditions and can refer to specialists or coordinate hospital care as needed.
Internists focus on the prevention and treatment of diseases in adults over the age of 18. Internists partner with patients throughout their adult lives to promote health and wellness, provide preventive care services and suggest lifestyle changes that may help to prevent disease. Internists have the skill set necessary to effectively manage medical problems including multiple or complex diseases.
