Hawaii Pacific Health Offers Employees Free COVID-19 Antibody Testing
Hawaii Pacific Health President and CEO Ray Vara announced that the company would offer the coronavirus antibody testing through Clinical Labs of Hawaii at no cost to its 7,200 employees to better understand what level of infection exists in the local population. The test will be available to employees beginning May 1.
Kapiolani Patient Haumea Friel Named Hawaii's 2020 Children's Miracle Network Champion
Haumea Friel, a 5-year-old Kapiolani patient, will share her message of courage and strength as the 2020 Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) Champion for Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children. Friel was introduced as Hawaii's Champion in front of hundreds of supporters from across the state at the inaugural CMN Partner Celebration.

Hawaii Pacific Health Accepting Applications for 2020 Health Careers Summer Internship
Hawaii Pacific Health is now accepting applications for its 2020 Health Careers Summer Internship program. This unique paid internship program offers students a rare opportunity to gain first-hand experience in the health care industry, learn more about general operations within a hospital system and explore a variety of different health care professions. The six-week paid internship program runs June 22-July 31, 2020, on Oahu and June 15-July 24, 2020, on Kauai. The deadline to submit applications is Friday, March 6, 2020.
Barry M. and Virginia S. Weinman Expand Cancer Care Research and Clinical Trials at Straub Medical Center with Historic $1 Million Gift
Straub Medical Center will further develop its cancer care research and clinical trials with a $1 million gift from Barry M. and Virginia S. Weinman. This gift is the most significant donation to cancer care at Straub in the history of the medical center, and will help expand local clinical trials at Straub while improving access for more cancer patients in Hawaii to receive experimental treatment.

The clinic was one of just 542 physician practices and health systems to be recognized for achieving blood pressure control rates of 70% or more in their adult patient population with high blood pressure.
Hawaii Pacific Health Receives National Award for Health Information Technology
Hawaii Pacific Health has once again been named a recipient of the HIMSS Davies Enterprise Award of Excellence, which recognizes outstanding achievement by organizations who have utilized health information technology, process improvement and organizational culture to substantially improve clinical outcomes and drive operational and financial value. HPH is the first three-time winner of the Davies Enterprise Award of Excellence since the program’s inception in 1994.
Hawaii Pacific Health Establishes New Medical Group for Employed Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers
Hawaii Pacific Health has united its employed physicians and advanced practice providers together under one operational structure to form the Hawaii Pacific Health Medical Group. The group, which was officially formed on Dec. 15, 2019, is a not-for-profit corporate subsidiary of Hawaii Pacific Health comprised of nearly 700 physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other health care providers, and will provide a framework for increased collaboration, coordination, and consistency throughout the Hawaii Pacific Health system.
Wilcox Family Members Donate $125,000 to Wilcox Medical Center in Honor of Namesake and Hospital Founder
As part of Wilcox Medical Center’s 80th anniversary celebration, descendants of its founder George Norton (G.N.) Wilcox are donating $125,000 in his honor. Wilcox family members – who include Kelley Carswell and family, Dr. Richard Goodale and family, David Pratt with sons Sam and Bill Pratt, and Kathy Richardson and family – are using this milestone anniversary to embark on a campaign to raise funds to upgrade the medical center’s Emergency Department and expand its trauma services for the Kauai community.
Construction Work at Straub Medical Center to Impact Area Vehicle and Pedestrian Traffic
Due to construction work at Straub Medical Center on Saturday, Nov. 30, one lane of S. Hotel Street will be partially closed from 6 a.m. until the late afternoon. It is recommended that drivers use alternate routes in the area when possible.
Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children Opens New Kobayashi & Kosasa Family Dining Room
As part of the continued build-out of the Diamond Head Tower, Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children opens its new Kobayashi & Kosasa Family Dining Room to the public on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2019. Located on the second floor, the new space features a 9,000-square-foot kitchen and 14,000-square-foot dining room that is three times the size of the existing cafeteria. In addition to seven new serving areas -- Pizza, Grab & Go, Salad Bar, Entrée, Grill, Deli Bar and Action Station -- it also features a full-service licensed Starbucks.
The Backstreet Boys Surprise Super Fan and Pediatric Cancer Patient at Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children
The Backstreet Boys demonstrated the shape of their hearts along with their aloha spirit during a surprise visit to Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children. Group members Nick Carter and Brian Littrell stopped by Kapiolani right before their Nov. 5 concert at the Blaisdell Arena to visit with patients and staff, and to surprise pediatric cancer patient Jordan Ilae for her end-of-chemotherapy celebration.
Straub, Pali Momi and Wilcox Medical Centers Recognized by Healthgrades for Quality Care and Exceptional Patient Outcomes
Straub, Pali Momi and Wilcox Medical Centers were recently recognized for quality care and exceptional patient outcomes by Healthgrades. Among the various awards received, Straub was named one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for General Surgery and Gastrointestinal Care, and is the only hospital in Hawaii to receive these designations. Straub also received 5-star ratings for 13 different specialty procedures and treatments. Pali Momi received 5-star ratings for Pacemaker Procedures, Hip Fracture and Bowel Obstruction Treatment outcomes, and Wilcox received 5-star ratings for Treatment of Stroke and Hip Fracture outcomes.
