Pali Momi Medical Center has achieved the Healthgrades 2022 Outstanding Patient Experience Award™. The medical center has received the national honor for four years in a row (2019-2022).

This distinction places Pali Momi among the top 10% of hospitals nationwide for patient experience, according to Healthgrades, the leading marketplace that connects people with the right doctor and hospitals. Pali Momi was also recognized for the 2022 Gastrointestinal Care Excellence Award and Five-Star distinctions in treatment of heart attack, hip fracture, bowel obstruction as well as spinal fusion surgery.

For this annual analysis, Healthgrades evaluated 3,173 hospitals that submitted at least 75 patient experience surveys each to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, covering admissions from July 2020 to March 2021. Of those hospitals evaluated, 399 hospitals outperformed their peers – based on their patients’ responses – to achieve this award.

“Every member of the Pali Momi team makes providing the highest quality care for our patients top priority, so earning this award based on patient evaluations makes us very proud,” said Pali Momi Chief Operating Officer Gloria Brooks. “Pali Momi was founded by a physician in 1989 specifically to serve people in Central and West Oahu. More than 30 years later, technology and treatments have changed, but our patients are still our focus.”

Pali Momi is home to the state’s only interventional cardiac catheterization unit to detect and treat heart disease, Hawaii’s first retina center, a comprehensive women’s center and the largest center for cancer care serving Central and West Oahu.

Healthgrades evaluates performance by applying a scoring methodology to 10 patient experience measures, using data collected from HCAHPS survey of the hospital’s own patients. Survey questions focus on patients’ perspectives of their care in the hospital. The topic of these questions range from cleanliness and noise levels in patient rooms to medication explanations and hospital staff responsiveness to patients’ needs. The measures also include whether a patient would recommend the hospital to friends or family, and the patient’s overall rating of the hospital.

“We applaud all recipients of the Healthgrades 2022 Outstanding Patient Experience Award for putting patient experience at the front and center within their organizations,” said Brad Bowman, MD, chief medical officer and head of data science for Healthgrades. “We commend these hospitals for their ongoing commitment in prioritizing an exceptional patient experience, while ensuring the health and safety of their patients.”
