Burn Care 101

OFFERING INFORMATION:
This offering is intended for Nurses and Nurse Aides who work with patients in the burn unit.


OBJECTIVES:
1. Identify the anatomy and physiology of skin, burn depth severity, size of burn and total body surface area (TBSA).
2. Identify hemodynamic changes - normal versus abnormal.
3. Determine the needs for fluid resuscitation.
4. Differentiate the mechanism of burns and other skin conditions.
5. Differentiate the priorities of care following the emergent phase and the rehabilitative phase.
6. Identify burn wound management priorities depending on burn etiology.
7. Identify the needs for and the roles of pain management, the inter-professional healthcare team, post hospital care and burn education.


CONTINUING EDUCATION:
In support of improving patient care, Hawai‘i Pacific Health is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Hawai‘i Pacific Health has approved this activity is approved for 3.5 contact hours for nurses. Nurses should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
