Care and Choices at the End of Life-An Educational Series on Hawaii’s New Our Care, Our Choice Act

OFFERING INFORMATION:
As we start our third year of Hawaii's Our Care, Our Choice Act (OCOCA), please join us for our educational Series on the implementation of the law and models for normalizing and integrating end-of-life choices into standard medical care.


OBJECTIVES:
1. Identify the clinical competencies necessary for participating in medical aid in dying and the requirements of aid-in-dying laws (terminology, components, history and data).
2. Examine the role of the inter-professional team in medical aid in dying, including communication with the provider, patient and family.
3. Examine the team approach to patient-centered management for end-of-life care and the interface with palliative care.
4. Examine the role of pharmacists in relation to medical aid-in-dying medications, the proper medication protocols for writing prescriptions and other resources, including the use and misuse of opioids.


CONTINUING EDUCATION:
In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by Hawai‘i Pacific Health and Compassion & Choices, Hawai‘i American Nurses Association and NASW-Hawai‘i Chapter. Hawai‘i Pacific Health is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Hawai‘i Pacific Health designates this live webinar for a maximum of 1.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits ™ for physicians. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Hawai‘i Pacific Health is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. This activity is accredited for 1.5 contact hours for attendance at the entire CE session.

As a Jointly Accredited Organization, Hawai‘i Pacific Health is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. Hawai‘i Pacific Health maintains responsibility for this course. Social workers completing this course receive 1.5 continuing education credits.

Hawai‘i Pacific Health designates this live activity to provide 1.5 CE credits for psychologists. Full attendance is required for this entire CE activity.
