Phase I - May 16, 2024: Groundbreaking ceremony for the start of construction
Hawaii Pacific Health (HPH) marked a milestone, celebrating the start of construction on the first phase of the multi-year Straub Benioff Medical Center Redevelopment project.
The commemorative ceremony included HPH and Straub Benioff physicians and leaders, state and city officials, and longstanding philanthropists, Lynne and Marc Benioff, Chair and CEO of Salesforce, who donated $100 million toward the redevelopment project. The Benioffs’ transformational gift is the largest donation to HPH and one of the largest single private donations in Hawaii history. The groundbreaking ceremony, in celebration of the health care campus of the future, was held where the new 1,600-stall parking building will be located.
Phase 1 - October 2023: Foundation pile testing for new parking building
Work on the foundation for the new parking building began in October 2023, including a deep foundation pile test using sectional augers.
Phase 1 - May 2023: Demolition of 800 S. King St.
Demolition work continued in May 2023 for the Straub Benioff Redevelopment project at 800 S. King St., the former location of Straub Benioff’s Physical Therapy and Occupational Health services.
Phase 1 - April 2023: Demolition of 788 S. King St.
Construction crews made progress on the Straub Benioff Redevelopment project with the demolition of the building at 788 S. King St., the former BedMart location in April 2023.
Phase 1 - January and February 2023: Demolition of 801 S. Hotel St. and 793 S. Hotel St.
The Straub Benioff Redevelopment project begins with the demolition of the two-story building at 801 S. Hotel St. on January 26, 2023, followed by the neighboring building at 793 S. Hotel St.
Phase 1 - December 2022: Groundbreaking ceremony for Straub Benioff Medical Center
Straub Benioff Medical Center commemorated its 100th anniversary with an intimate groundbreaking to kick off a comprehensive redevelopment project of its campus. Kahu Kordell Kekoa led Hawaii Pacific Health leadership, HPH and Straub Foundation board chairs, Straub Benioff Redevelopment Committee members and construction partners in a maile lei ceremony, land blessing, and groundbreaking ceremony.
