Straub Benioff Medical Center has received numerous awards and distinctions from Healthgrades, including the 2024 Outstanding Patient Experience Award™. This recognition places Straub Benioff among the top 15% of hospitals nationwide for patient experience, according to Healthgrades, the leading marketplace that connects patients with the right doctors and hospitals.

For this annual analysis, Healthgrades evaluated more than 2,500 hospitals that submitted at least 100 patient experience surveys to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), covering admissions from January 2022 to December 2022. Of those hospitals, Straub Benioff outperformed its peers – based on feedback from their own patients – to achieve this award.

In addition to the Outstanding Patient Experience Award™, Healthgrades recognized Straub Benioff with the following:

  • 2024 Outpatient Orthopedic Surgery Excellence Award™ (only recipient in Hawaii)
  • 2024 Gastrointestinal Surgery Excellence Award™
  • Named among the top 10% in the nation for gastrointestinal surgery in 2024
  • Five-star recipient for outpatient total hip replacement (only recipient in Hawaii)
  • Five-star recipient for hip fracture treatment for 11 years in a row (2014-2024)
  • Five-star recipient for colorectal surgeries in 2024
  • Five-star recipient for treatment of bowel obstruction in 2024
  • Five-star recipient for treatment of stroke for seven years in a row (2018-2024)
  • Five-star recipient for treatment of sepsis for 15 years in a row (2010-2024)
  • Five-star recipient for treatment of pulmonary embolism in 2024

These recognitions reflect Straub Benioff’s commitment to deliver consistent, high-quality care and places the medical center in the upper tier of hospitals for specialty care nationwide.

To identify the top hospitals for patient experience, Healthgrades applies a scoring methodology to 10 patient experience measures using Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey data submitted by the hospital’s own patients. Survey questions focus on patients’ perceptions of their hospital care, from cleanliness and noise levels to medication explanations and staff responsiveness. The measures also include whether a patient would recommend the hospital to friends or family and their overall rating of the hospital.
