OFFERING INFORMATION:
As we recognize the 2-year anniversary of Hawaii’s Our Care, Our Choice Act, an increasing number of professionals have helped Hawaii residents with their end-of-life/medical aid-in-dying request. That first or second patient can be very impactful, and the experience can be accompanied by many questions. This series of webinars will focus on the benefit and importance of the entire interdisciplinary care team, the importance of cohesion and functionality across all disciplines. In addition, sessions will explore the clinical skills necessary to create optimal care plans and to being actively involved with end-of-life patients and their families.
SERIES' OBJECTIVES:
1. Identify the clinical competencies necessary for participating in medical aid in dying and the requirements of aid-in-dying laws (terminology, components, history and data).
2. Examine the role of the inter-professional team in medical aid in dying, including communication with the provider, patient and family.
3. Examine the team approach to patient-centered management for end-of-life care and the interface with palliative care.
4. Examine the role of pharmacists in relation to medical aid-in-dying medications, the proper medication protocols for writing prescriptions and other resources, including the use and misuse of opioids.
