OFFERING INFORMATION:
This course aims to increase a nurse's knowledge, skills and confidence in ostomy management.


OBJECTIVES:
1. Identify common gastrointestinal and urinary continent and incontinent diversions.
2. Identify the different types of fecal and urinary surgical procedures and stoma formations.
3. Review early and late Stomal and Peristomal complications and strategies for management.
4. Relate how the psychological and emotional factors impact ostmates’ postoperative adjustment.


CONTINUING EDUCATION:
In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo and Hawai‘i Pacific Health. Hawai‘i Pacific Health is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
