Hemophilia & Thrombosis

Hemophilia & Thrombosis

Bleeding and blood-clotting disorders can be life-threatening, so it is critical to get an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment. Blood clots, or thrombosis, can have a variety of causes and their treatment depends on your current, individual health situation. Hemophilia and similar bleeding disorders are often genetic and they, too, require specialized treatment.

We believe that treating blood-clotting disorders is best done by a team of doctors with expertise in a range of medical specialties including hematology, internal medicine, surgery and genetics. We assemble a team based on each patient’s unique situation and needs, to provide them with optimal care.

Hemophilia & Thrombosis at Kapiolani

The Kapiolani Hemophilia & Thrombosis Treatment Center is dedicated to serving patients living with hemophilia and coagulation disorders by providing comprehensive care that focuses on the person and the family as a whole. The Center believes that through community outreach and education, we strengthen our ability to ensure ongoing coordinated care for patients.

The Center focuses on providing comprehensive care by involving patients and their families in identifying and addressing their medical, emotional, physical, educational, psychological, vocational and financial needs that often accompany hemophilia and other bleeding disorders. The concept of providing comprehensive care has led to an improved quality of life for individuals with bleeding disorders through acquired independence, decreased morbidity and prevention of other related health problems. Maintaining annual visits with the Center’s team is an important factor in maintaining one’s health and reducing overall health care costs.
