A "Site" to Behold for Straub Benioff Patients

News

Dr. Sandra Noon, chief of primary care for Hawaii Pacific Health and an internal medicine physician with Straub Benioff Medical Center & Clinics, has some excellent news to share: The new Straub Benioff Medical Center – Mililani Clinic & Urgent Care is now open!

Here, she discusses what patients can expect.

What would you like to highlight about the new clinic?

We are excited to welcome patients to the largest Straub Benioff neighborhood clinic in Hawaii. At 24,000 square feet with more than 50 exam rooms, the new clinic's design and workflow is open and meant to make patients feel comfortable the moment they walk through the doors. Greeters will welcome and guide you and your family to the right area. There are rooms for patient classes and other programs that also help us build a healthier community.

The new clinic is also designed for the future. We have the spaces we need for innovation so we can adapt to new techniques, technologies and evolving patient needs. Adjustable spaces allow our providers, staff and patients flexibility.

The new Straub Benioff Medical Center – Mililani Clinic & Urgent Care features two floors of innovative, high-quality care.

In addition to primary care physicians, who else will be seeing patients in the new clinic?

One very important addition is urgent care, which is a service we know is increasingly in demand. The new clinic has urgent care available for the community seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. We will also enhance our imaging capabilities by offering 3D mammograms so patients can receive these more detailed screenings in Mililani.

We are expanding our primary care team of doctors in Mililani, and our OB-GYN and dermatologists will continue to be based there. HPH sports medicine doctors, rheumatologists and endocrinologists already see patients in Mililani, and we plan to add even more specialties in the future, including pediatric sports medicine and cardiology, so patients can receive more comprehensive care in their neighborhood.

How will it help families in Mililani, Central and West Oahu?

Previously, we had two separate clinics in the neighborhood: one at Mililani Shopping Center and the other at Town Center of Mililani. This larger clinic combines all of our services, existing and new, in one place. My patients are excited that now when we refer them for blood work, an X-ray or a specialist, everything they need will be under one roof. It makes it even easier for them to take that next step in their care.

We specifically designed this new, modern Mililani Clinic & Urgent Care with stations where doctors and team members will sit together in a shared space. That way, in addition to communicating through notes, health care teams can consult with each other and collaborate with specialists on how best to coordinate a patient's care.

Enhanced imaging capabilities, like 3D mammography, means patients can now get more detailed screenings closer to home.

What is your biggest goal for your patients when you see them?

Everyone has different goals, and I try to help my patients reach them. Some who are in their 80s say their goal is to be able to get up from sitting on the floor more easily after playing with their great-grandchildren. For others, the goal is to be healthy enough to travel more, or to stay mobile and avoid falling as they age. Whatever it is, I try to partner with them to help them achieve it.

Why did you decide to pursue a career in medicine?

I'm a puzzle person. I like looking for solutions. I went into internal medicine because I liked the idea of working with patients to try to solve their health challenges.

During residency, I realized that I truly enjoy connecting with patients and learning about their lives.

At the end of every day, I love knowing I was able to make a difference for my patients.

I also love working in Mililani. I have been treating patients here since I joined HPH. People here look out for each other, and the neighborhood pride is evident. It’s easy to give love to a community that gives it back to you.
