Conditions & Treatments

Gestational Diabetes

Diabetes during pregnancy, also called gestational diabetes, affects how your body uses sugar, which can raise the risk of health concerns for you during pregnancy and beyond. It can also affect your baby, which is why having the right care and support can make a meaningful difference.

Designed by our team at Kapiʻolani Medical Center for Women & Children, A Sweeter Choice helps expectant mothers with diabetes manage blood sugar during pregnancy. Our team provides compassionate care, helpful education and guidance every step of the way to help keep you and your baby healthy.

High-Risk Pregnancies and Genetic Screening

Our team at the Fetal Diagnostic Center helps manage high-risk pregnancies, coordinates care, and provides testing to support the health of both you and your baby.

We offer screening, diagnostic testing, and ongoing care for women with complicated pregnancies, as well as testing for expectant mothers with routine pregnancies.

Delivery and Recovery at Wilcox

Labor, delivery, and recovery happen in one comfortable private suite. Each suite includes a birthing bed, television, Echo Dot for music, and a private bathroom with a shower. Wireless fetal monitoring is also available in case you want the option to walk and move around while your care team continues to monitor you and your baby.

Your suite has the equipment needed to support your birth, including care for higher-risk situations. A surgical suite is nearby if a Cesarean birth is needed.

If you need more specialized care, your team can connect you with maternal-fetal medicine specialists at Kapiʻolani Medical Center for Women & Children.

During labor and delivery, a labor nurse will care for you and help guide you through the process. After your baby is born, your newborn will receive an ID band that matches yours. Your care team will also share helpful tips as you begin caring for and bonding with your baby.

After delivery, you and your baby will stay together in a private postpartum room. This is called rooming-in, and it can help you learn your baby’s routines and feel more comfortable caring for them. Halo bassinets are available to support safe, family-centered care while keeping your baby close.

If you choose to breastfeed, a lactation consultant is available to help you and your baby get started.

To celebrate your baby’s arrival, new parents are also treated to a complimentary stork dinner after delivery.

After you go home, you may receive a follow-up call from a nurse within 24 hours to answer questions and offer support.
