Massage Therapy, Healing Touch, and Reiki
Caring for the whole person is an important part of healing. Complimentary healing therapies such as massage therapy, Healing Touch, and Reiki offer gentle ways to relax and support your overall well-being.
Massage Therapy
Massage therapy provides benefits such as:
- Improved blood flow and circulation
- Increased range of motion
- Enhanced sports and fitness abilities
- Reduced fatigue, anxiety, and stress
Massage therapy also helps soothe sore and tired muscles, reduce pain, promote relaxation, and facilitate recovery.
Healing Touch and Reiki
Built upon the philosophy of caring for the whole person – body, mind, emotion, and spirit – these techniques complement the traditional therapeutic treatment provided by your healthcare team.
Healing Touch and Reiki therapy are said to help "smooth out" the body’s energy field during times of physical, mental, or emotional stress. It doesn't interfere with your medical care and can be performed at the bedside while you're fully clothed and comfortable.
After receiving a session from either one of these therapies, many people report feeling more relaxed, experiencing decreased discomfort, and having an improved overall sense of well-being.

Healing Touch and Reiki Therapy at the Pali Momi Women's Center
The Pali Momi Women’s Center offers Healing Touch and Reiki therapy to patients upon request.
What to Expect During a Therapy Session
Healing Touch and Reiki therapy involve little or no contact with the receiver’s physical body. With your permission, you may experience light touch to areas you feel appropriate, or you can request no physical contact at all. The therapist will be moving his or her hands above your body to “smooth out” your body’s energy field. Sessions can last from a few minutes to 20-30 minutes.
Relaxation best occurs when there are the least amount of distractions and interruptions. After the therapist introduces him or herself, he or she may suggest you move to a comfortable position. You are to remain fully clothed and may be in any position that suits you. You may hear relaxing music being played.
- If you would like further explanation about what the therapist is doing, do not hesitate to ask.
- Please feel free to let the therapist know if anything is uncomfortable.
- You are free to stop the therapy session at any time.
- If you fall asleep during the therapy session, the therapist will let you rest and will quietly excuse him or herself when the session is complete.
Volunteers, some of whom are medical personnel, are available to perform the therapy sessions for our patients. All those who give the therapy have completed coursework in their specialty and follow strict guidelines set forth by the medical center.
Healing Touch and Reiki therapy are available to all Pali Momi inpatients at no charge.
