Pali Momi Medical Center has achieved the Healthgrades 2023 Outstanding Patient Experience Award™. The medical center has received the national honor for five years in a row (2019-2023).

This distinction places Pali Momi among the top 15% of hospitals nationwide for patient experience, according to Healthgrades, the leading marketplace that connects people with the right doctor and hospitals.

For this annual analysis, Healthgrades evaluated 3,138 hospitals that submitted at least 100 patient experience surveys each to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), covering admissions from January to December 2021. Of those hospitals evaluated, 419 hospitals outperformed their peers – based on their patients’ responses – to achieve this award.

Pali Momi is home to Central and West Oahu’s only interventional cardiac catheterization unit, which helps detect and treat heart disease, a comprehensive women’s center and one of the largest centers for cancer care in Hawaii.

“Whether patients need immediate medical help in our Emergency Department or longer-term treatment in our women’s, heart or cancer centers, providing the highest quality care with a personal touch is our top priority,” said Dave Underriner, Pali Momi CEO and Hawaii Pacific Health executive vice president of Oahu operations. “Pali Momi Medical Center was founded by a physician for people in Central and West Oahu 30 years ago, so we are extremely proud and honored by this recognition based on patient surveys.”

Healthgrades evaluates performance by applying a scoring methodology to 10 patient experience measures, using data collected from HCAHPS survey of the hospital’s own patients. Survey questions focus on patients’ perspectives of their care in the hospital. The topic of these questions range from cleanliness and noise levels in patient rooms to medication explanations and hospital staff responsiveness to patients’ needs. The measures also include whether a patient would recommend the hospital to friends or family, and the patient’s overall rating of the hospital.

“We applaud all recipients of the Healthgrades 2023 Outstanding Patient Experience Award for putting patient experience at the front and center within their organizations,” said Brad Bowman, MD, chief medical officer and head of data science for Healthgrades. “We commend these hospitals for their ongoing commitment in prioritizing an exceptional patient experience, while ensuring the health and safety of their patients.”
