Biography and Interests
Biography
Prior to joining Kapiolani, Dr. Burkhalter was the chief of Orthopedic Surgery at Tripler Army Medical Center and former director of its Residency Program. He completed his residency in orthopedics at the University of Miami Jackson Memorial Hospital. He then completed his pediatric orthopedics fellowship at Scottish Rite Children’s Medical Center in Georgia. Dr. Burkhalter has been providing assistance for complex spine and pelvic surgery at Kapi‘olani for many years. He has been practicing in Hawaii since 1996 and is now retired from the Army. His special interests include spinal deformity, hip preservation and pediatric extremity deformities.
