Biography and Interests
Biography
Dr. Shimokawa grew up in Kaimuki, graduated from Punahou School, the University of Notre Dame, and Creighton University School of Medicine. She joined the Army in medical school and trained in pediatrics at Tripler Army Medical Center. Dr. Shimokawa served as an active duty pediatrician stationed in Italy and deployed to Iraq. Upon returning home to Hawaii in 2012, she cared for children at Kapiolani Medical Center as the Medical Director of both the Cleft and Craniofacial Center and the N.E.W. Keiki (Nutrition + Exercise + Weight Management) Program. She also trained medical students and residents as an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine. Her published research is focused on obesity management in families.
Professional Interests
Dr. Shimokawa is board certified in pediatrics and in 2015 became the first pediatrician in Hawaii board certified in Obesity Medicine.
Personal Interests
Dr. Shimokawa is an avid sports fan and loves to travel. She enjoys family time at the beach, hiking, cooking Italian food, and reading.
