Biography and Interests
Biography
Dr. Kenneth Chang is specializing in advanced cataract surgery, diabetic eye diseases and providing diagnostic expertise and medical management for all visual complaints. He has a referral network with other highly trained ophthalmologists in the state. He has additional sub-specialty fellowship training in neuro-ophthalmology, which is the field of visual disorders related to the brain. His passion for caring and empowering patients comes from over 15 years of experience. For Dr. Chang, engaging patients in the decision-making process is the essential part of treatment.
Dr. Chang is a native of Oahu and grew up in Kaneohe. Being a graduate of Punahou School and the John A. Burns School of medicine, he is acutely aware of the local health and eye issues of people living in our state. Dr. Chang returned to Hawaii after training and being on faculty at Harvard Medical School for 7 years where he trained residents and encountered the most technically demanding, complex eye care diseases. He also taught advanced surgical courses and lectured to practicing physicians at international and national society meetings.
Dr. Chang gives back to the local community and around the world. He has done mission work in Africa, Fiji, India, and the Dominican Republic, and worked in Native American Indian Reservations. In Hawaii, he has shared his knowledge and expertise at community health fairs and treated pro-bono non-insured patients.
He has several scholarly publications, and provided significant content for Cataract Master, a unique computer-based simulation designed to teach the cognitive aspects of cataract surgery. He continues to work with mentors and pioneers in the field.
