Biography and Interests

Biography

Prior to attending medical school, Dr. Rovinsky worked in the computer software industry. This early career path inspired a career devoted to the integration of technology to orthopedic surgery, which led to being involved with many "firsts" in the state of Hawaii:

• First robotic-assisted total knee replacement
• First bicruciate sparing total knee replacement – a total knee replacement that preserves both the ACL and PCL
• First use of digital navigation for total hip replacement
• Introduction of the direct anterior approach to total hip replacement

Dr. Rovinsky has also been a pioneer in the development of digital fluoroscopic navigation of total hip replacement and has been integral to the development and design of total knee replacement implants to enable athletes a better, faster return to activities.

Additionally, Dr. Rovinsky hosts a Visiting Surgeon’s Program (VSP) that invites surgeons to Wilcox Medical Center to learn new techniques in robotic-assisted total knee replacement and direct anterior hip replacement. Surgeons have traveled from across the globe, including the United States mainland, Australia and Japan.

He currently is looking into the use of augmented reality tools to improve accuracy and precision in joint reconstruction and the use of virtual reality for training orthopedic surgeons in novel procedures.

Dr. Rovinsky loves Kauai and enjoys the outdoor activities offered by his island home, including surfing and spearfishing.
