A Legacy of Medical Firsts

A History of Innovation

Straub Benioff Medical Center was founded in 1921 as “The Clinic” by Dr. George F. Straub, who introduced a new model of care in Hawaiʻi – bringing physicians from different specialties together to provide more coordinated, comprehensive care in one location.

As the practice grew, so did its commitment to advancing care. In 1970, The Clinic broke ground on its first hospital, expanding services to meet the needs of a growing community. With the hospital’s opening in 1973, it became Straub Clinic & Hospital, marking a significant milestone in its evolution.

Over the decades, Straub Benioff has continued to evolve into an integrated medical center, building on a foundation of collaboration, innovation, and a commitment to improving care for the people of Hawaiʻi.
