Martha B. Smith Cancer & Infusion Center

Construction Updates

Kapiʻolani Medical Center for Women & Children is moving forward with construction of the Martha B. Smith Cancer & Infusion Center, a new, dedicated space designed to enhance cancer and infusion care for Hawaiʻi’s women and children.

Construction began in February 2026 and is anticipated be completed in Summer 2027.

What to Expect During Construction

During construction, patients, visitors, and staff may notice:

  • Construction activity in and around designated areas of the campus.
  • Temporary relocation of some services or administrative spaces.
  • Occasional noise during daytime construction hours.
  • Adjusted walking routes or signage within the medical center.

Every effort will be made to limit noise, maintain safe access, and reduce inconvenience.

Go behind the scenes as work begins on the future Martha B. Smith Cancer & Infusion Center, including early demolition and site progress.

Patient Care and Access

  • Patient care will continue throughout construction.
  • Existing cancer and infusion services will remain available, with temporary locations clearly communicated if needed.
  • Wayfinding signage and staff support will be available to help guide patients and visitors.

If any changes to access, parking, or service locations occur, updates will be shared in advance whenever possible.

Temporary Department Relocations

With construction underway on the Martha B. Smith Cancer & Infusion Center, some areas within the medical center have been temporarily reconfigured to support the project.

During this time:

  • Portions of the Main Hospital lobby and hallway areas are temporarily closed due to construction barricades.
  • Some departments and services have been temporarily relocated to other areas on campus to allow construction to proceed safely.

Departments and services that have been relocated include:

  • Admissions & Guest Registration – 2nd Floor (Shared Services Building)
  • Financial Services – 2nd Floor (Shared Services Building)
  • Gift Shop – 2nd Floor (Diamond Head Tower)
  • Information Desk – 2nd Floor (Diamond Head Tower, Dining Room)
  • Medical Records – 3rd Floor (Diamond Head Tower)
  • Patient Relations – 3rd Floor (Diamond Head Tower)

Clear signage is posted throughout the medical center. If you have an appointment, please allow extra time for wayfinding and arrival.

Parking and Campus Access Updates

Parking and entry points at Kapiʻolani have been adjusted to support construction activity and ensure safety.

What to Know
  • The Punahou Parking Structure is closed for the duration of the construction project.
  • All patients, visitors, staff and physicians are directed to park in the Kapiʻolani Parking Garage.
  • Due to consolidated parking, congestion may occur during peak daytime hours.
Building Entrances
  • The Punahou side entrances, including the former gift shop entrance, are closed.
  • Patients, visitors, and vendors should enter the medical center through the main entrances off Bingham Street or the patient drop-off circle.

Wayfinding signs and on-site staff will assist with parking, entrances, and navigating the campus.
