Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children provides parents a three-hour class designed to prepare expectant couples for breastfeeding. Held as part of the Infant Care series, this class covers lactation, breastfeeding techniques, how babies nurse and problem-solving techniques.
Bedside consultations with a lactation consultant are provided to every new mother within the first 24 hours after birth to offer education and one-on-one support.
Lactation consultants also are available for two hours every Monday and Friday at the outpatient clinics. A monthly lactation support group is held on the first Tuesday of the month.
Breastfeeding moms should always feel comfortable asking for help and asking questions of their health care provider.
