Construction Update

Road closures are scheduled for Thursday, October 1, 2015 to Thursday, October 8, 2015 from 5:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. for a tower crane removal.

For the safety of our patients, visitors, staff and workers, we are closing the Bingham Street fronting construction site and counter flowing vehicle traffic.

On Tuesday, October 6, 2015 the patient drop off area on Bingham Street will also be closed. Please use the Emergency Department drop off instead. Please see maps below for details.

Start Date: Thursday, October 1, 2015
Completion Date: Thursday, October 8, 2015

  • Closure between 5:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. daily.
  • HPD will be stationed at the intersections to direct traffic.
  • Elite Parking will provide ambassadors to assist.
  • Foot traffic under the covered walkway along Bingham Street will remain open.

Patients and visitors will be able to access the hospital drop-off area by turning on to Bingham Street from Punahou Street. Drivers exiting the hospital drop off will need to turn left on Bingham (counter flow) and then right on Punahou.

For patients and visitors traveling H1 Eastbound to the Kapiolani Garage, the following route is recommended:

  1. Take Punahou Street Exit 23
  2. Right on Punahou Street
  3. Left on King Street
  4. Left on McCully Street
  5. Left on Beretania Street
  6. Right on Alexander Street
  7. Left on Bingham Street (contraflow see map below) to parking garage

For patients and visitors traveling H1 Westbound to the Kapiolani Garage, the following route is recommended:

  1. Take King Street Exit 25A and turn right onto King Street
  2. King Street becomes Beretania Street after the University Avenue intersection
  3. Right on Alexander Street
  4. Left on Bingham Street (contraflow see map below) to parking garage

Traffic control measures and special duty police officers will be used to route traffic through the area.

During the month of September and October, 2015, the following construction activities will occur:

  •    Removal of Tower Crane from October 1 to October 8, 2015.
  •    Exterior wall glazing, metal panel and stucco installation.
  •    Generator building construction continues in the private lane.
  •    Drills, jackhammers and saw cutters will continue to be used throughout the day.
  •    Drivers using Bingham Street should expect some delays, as commercial trucks will be in the area to haul away the debris. 
  •    There may be some congestion at the patient drop-off area due to these activities.  Staff will be on hand to assist patients and families

Construction Hours

Monday through Friday: 7 a.m. - 6 p.m. 
Demolition (using jackhammer, saw cutting, etc.) 9 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Saturday: 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.
There will be a break in construction during the midday when the crew stops for lunch.
