This activity provides a review of the entire spectrum of care for the patient receiving ECMO and validates the learning with discussions around case scenarios and simulation return demonstration.
Objectives:
1. Describe ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) therapy, criteria for therapy and equipment used for ECMO.
2. Discuss advanced respiratory and cardiac management in neonates, pediatrics and the adult patient requiring ECMO for cardiac and respiratory support.
3. Discuss the physiology of ECMO (VA and VV ECMO).
4. Identify safety procedures prior to cannulation for ECMO.
