COURSE INFORMATION:
This Offering is for nurses who are interested in being a preceptor or enhancing skills as a preceptor.


OBJECTIVES:
1. Describe Preceptor development at HPH and recognize the 5 Roles of the Preceptor.
2. Discuss own teaching and learning styles and needs as an Adult Learner and how these relate to styles of the Student Nurse, Orientee and New Graduate.
3. Recall 5stages of development toward expertise and own stage of development as a Preceptor.
4. Discuss the use of the COPA model&8 more Core Competencies in competency validation of the Preceptee.
5. Identify strategies for developing critical thinking in Preceptees.
6. Integrate the use of electronic competency validation documentation system.
7. Differentiate between Assignment, Delegation, Accountability and Responsibility as a Professional Nurse.
8. Discuss effective communication in Healthcare as related to communication with Preceptee and other Team Members on Unit.
9. Discuss own Interpersonal, Generational, Cultural and Conflict Management styles and how these relate to Preceptee styles and needs.
10. Delineate tools needed as a Preceptor working with Student Nurses, New Hires and New Grads.


CONTINUING EDUCATION:
In support of improving patient care, Hawai‘i Pacific Health is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
