Child At-Risk Evaluation (CARE)

The sad truth is that more than 2,500 children are abused and neglected each year in Hawaii. The CARE program is dedicated to helping them.

Our mission is to provide comprehensive, coordinated and compassionate forensic health services to children who are victims or suspected victims of abuse and neglect. The CARE Program offers three levels of medical forensic services.

  • Pre-placement medical evaluations for children entering foster care. Evaluations are performed by a trained clinician to ensure that the medical needs of the child are diagnosed and treated early, and to provide forensic documentation of any injuries found. Offered at King Street and Fort Weaver Road locations.
  • Comprehensive health evaluations for children entering the foster care system. These evaluations include a thorough physical, developmental and behavioral assessments, organization of medical information and referral to a doctor within the community for ongoing care. Offered at King Street location.
  • Forensic medical evaluations for children who are being investigated as alleged victims of abuse and neglect. Evaluations include documentation of injuries, medical studies and written reports of findings. Offered at King Street location.
