Why Volunteer?

Thank you for your interest in our volunteer program.  We have received an overwhelming number of requests to volunteer and will not be accepting any applications at this time.  We will welcome new requests at the end of August 2008.  We look forward to hearing from you then.

Volunteering at Kapi'olani provides many rewarding benefits:

Make a difference       Gain experience       Build new friendships

What would I do as a volunteer?

There are many volunteer opportunities available throughout our facilities:

  • Kapi'olani Medical Center at Pali Momi
  • Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women & Children
  • Kapi'olani Women's Center

Many volunteers work directly with patients, assisting staff in transporting, visiting or reading to patients. Our volunteers also provide valuable support in non-patient care areas assisting with hospital tours, typing, data entry, filing and answering phones. The information desk, patient care units, playroom and gift shop are just a few of the areas where volunteers can provide assistance.

What does it take to be a Kapi'olani volunteer?

We're looking for individuals with:

  • positive attitude
  • open mindedness and flexibility
  • maturity and respect for others
  • genuine desire to help others
  • sincere interest in Kapi'olani

Volunteers must also be at least 16 years old, and commit to working a regular weekly schedule for three to six months.

How do I apply?

As a volunteer, you become a member of our Kapi'olani health care team. Because our patient's health and safety is of utmost importance, our volunteers go through a screening and orientation process similar to that of our hospital staff.

Volunteer screening and orientation takes about three to four weeks from the time we receive your completed application.

STEP 1: Submit application

STEP 2: Interview

STEP 3: Complete health screening

  • Two negative TB tests (provided at no charge)
  • Provide proof of:
