It began as a dream over 50 years ago.
That's when Dr. Joseph Nishimoto, "Dr. Joe," returned to Hawaii with his wife Maude, to practice medicine in Aiea and Pearl City. As the community grew, he envisioned a state-of-the-art hospital here so that Leeward families wouldn't have to drive into town for medical care.
The road to achieving that vision spanned eight years and took the efforts of many. Most importantly, the community shared in Dr. Joe's vision. The planning group successfully collected 13,000 signatures on a petition to help secure state approval for development of the new Leeward facility. The hospital known today as Kapi'olani Medical Center at Pali Momi opened in 1989. "It's so important for families to know they can receive quality care close to home. With Kapi'olani here they can. That's gratifying to me," says Dr. Joe.
Continuing Our Vision
Nearly 20 years later, we continue to strive to provide state-of-the-art care in the community. Kapi'olani Medical Center at Pali Momi has made significant strides to bring the very latest technology and innovative programs to Leeward Oahu.
We appreciate the community's show of confidence and support. With the help of individuals like yourself, we can continue the vision to be the premier regional medical center on Oahu, leading our community to lifetime wellness.
We welcome your participation at any level. There are many ways to support our work, both now and in the future.
