Bone Health Program (osteoporosis)

Frank Singer, M.D.
Osteoporosis Specialist

Dr. Singer specializes in the treatment of osteoporosis and is the medical director of Kapi'olani's Bone Health Program. He received his medical degree from the University of the East Medical School. He completed his residency at Trenton Affiliated Hospitals and fellowship at Beth Israel Medical Center. Dr. Singer helps women diagnosed or at risk for osteoporosis to develop a preventive treatment plan in coordination with their doctor.

Marcie Nowack
Exercise Physiologist

Marcie Nowack is an exercise physiologist and helps women adopt a safe and effective fitness regimen to build strength and flexibility in order to reduce the risk of falls and to minimize the ill-effects of osteoporosis.

Incontinence Program

Aileen M.K. Yee, M.D.
Urogynecologist

Dr. Yee is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology, and specializes in evaluation and treatment of urinary incontinence, pelvic prolapse, fecal incontinence and minimally invasive surgery. She received her medical degree from the UCLA School of Medicine. Dr. Yee completed her residency at Harbor - UCLA Medical Center and fellowship in urogynecology and pelvic reconstructive surgery at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center and University of Maryland.

Shawna Brizzolara, M.D.
OB/GYN

Dr. Brizzolara is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and has received specialized training in urogynecology for the treatment of incontinence and other pelvic support problems. She received her medical degree from the University of California, Davis and completed her residency at the University of Hawaii. She teams with our physical therapist and nurse coordinator to develop a comprehensive treatment plan to assist women in regaining their independence.

Women's Counseling and Coaching Program

Annette A Shimizu, Ph.D.

Annette Shimizu is a psychologist at Kapi'olani. She earned her bachelor of arts and doctor of philosophy degrees from the University of Hawaii and her master's from Purdue.

Bart Pillen, Ph.D.

Bart Pillen is a clinical psychologist and specializes in women's health issues and concerns. He received his doctorate degree from DePaul University in Illinois.


Weight Loss Solutions Team

Stephen Bradley, M.D.
Bariatric Medicine Specialist

Dr. Bradley received his medical degree from the University of Bologna in Italy. He is a board certified orthopedic surgeon, and most recently passed his board certification exams in bariatric medicine, the only physician in Hawaii. His diverse background and training includes graduation from the California Culinary Institute with an emphasis in Nutrition & Healthy Food Preparation. Dr. Bradley consults with patients to design personalized weight loss regimens to include behavior modification, dietary and fitness plans, and drug therapy.

Marcie Nowack
Exercise Physiologist

Exercise physiology uses physical activity to treat a broad range of illnesses including obesity. Marcie works with patients to assess their physical condition, design a personalized fitness plan and to monitor their progress over the course of the surgical program.

August Espinal, RD
Registered Dietitian

August Espinal received her bachelors in food science and human nutrition from the University of Hawaii and is certified in adult weight management. She works with patients to educate and establish appropriate dietary plans to support the patient's treatment plan.

Robert W. Schulz, M.D.
Plastic Surgery

Dr. Schulz is board certified in plastic surgery. He received his medical degree from George Washington University and completed his residencies at the University of Hawaii (Gen. Surgery), and Cronin and Brauer Clinic (Plastic Surgery). He specializes in cosmetic and breast surgery.

Todd H. Mirzai, M.D.
Plastic Surgery

Dr. Mirzai was raised on Maui. He received his medical degree from Cornell University College in Manhattan. He completed three years of general surgery training at the University of Hawaii and three years of plastic surgery training at Loma Linda University Medical Center, CA. Dr. Mirzai specializes in surgical and non-surgical techniques to enhance appearance and reduce signs of aging.

Acupuncture Program

Melissa Yee
Acupuncturist

Melissa Yee is an acupuncturist licensed by the state of Hawaii which requires four years of training and extensive hands-on experience at an approved college of Oriental medicine, and successful completion of the licensure exam. In addition, Melissa holds her doctor of acupuncture degree, which entailed an additional year of training.
