Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death in the United States and is responsible for about 40% of deaths in Hawai‘i. Most of us think statistics like this don't apply to us, but they do. You may be at risk for cardiovascular disease.

Many factors influence your degree of risk for heart disease, including family history, obesity, high blood pressure and diabetes.

Symptoms of cardiovascular disease vary from minor to severe chest pains, shortness of breath and nausea, to no symptoms at all. In fact, the first indication of heart disease for some people is a heart attack, sometimes a fatal one.
