A Combination of Talent, Expertise, Technology and Compassion

Surgery involves more than a surgeon's touch. Physicians, hospitalists (physicians who specialize in caring for hospitalized patients), nurses, technicians, registered dietitians, case managers and social workers collaborate daily to provide patients with coordinated care and comfortable hospital stay.

Our specially-trained intensivists are devoted to caring for patients during the critical hours they may spend in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Surgical

The Heart Center's cardiac surgery program has attracted some of Hawai‘i's best surgeons and is one of the most innovative and respected programs in the state. The cardiac surgery team brings decades of experience to the service of hundreds of patients annually.

The Heart Center's cardiovascular team lead Hawai‘i in introducing minimally invasive surgical procedures, which can dramatically reduce trauma and discomfort, and shorten recovery time.

Coronary Bypass Surgery

Straub performed Hawai‘i's first Maze procedure in 2003. This procedure blocks the erratic electrical impulses of atrial fibrillation, resulting in a 90 percent cure rate.

A combination of talent, expertise, technology and compassion is vital to a successful surgical program. At the Heart Center, we combine these elements in a well-orchestrated fashion to provide the safest and most effective care available.

Off-Pump Surgery

A new type of heart-bypass surgery at The Heart Center at Straub Clinic & Hospital doesn't require surgeons to stop the heart in order to repair it, as is done in conventional bypass surgery. Called "off-pump" coronary artery bypass surgery, the operation treats blocked coronary arteries in order to reduce the risk of heart attacks in patients with cardiovascular disease, and does so without needing to temporarily stop the heart and use a heart-lung machine. This lowers the risks associated with conventional bypass surgery.
