Straub Heart Center represents a significant investment in this community by Straub and Hawai‘i Pacific Health. Its team is dedicated to delivering unsurpassed, comprehensive cardiac care and to creating a center of excellence in Hawai‘i that will enhance the quality of cardiac specialty care throughout the Pacific region.
Mark T. Grattan, MD is the medical director of cardiac surgery at the Straub Heart Center. He joined Straub in 1991 and is board certified in surgery, thoracic surgery (including cardiac surgery) and surgical critical care. His special interests include less-invasive chest surgery, including off-pump coronary bypass surgery; video-assisted thoracic surgery for treatment of lung disease and hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating); mitral valve repairs; heart and lung transplantation; and mechanical heart assist devices. Dr. Grattan received his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of California at San Francisco. He completed residencies in general surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital at Harvard, and in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery, as well as heart-lung transplantation at Stanford University Medical Center.
J. Roy Chen, MD, MPH is the medical director of cardiology at Straub Heart Center. He joined Straub in 1990 and is board certified in cardiology, internal medicine and interventional medicine. His special interests include coronary angioplasty, athrectomy, stents and rotablator. Dr. Chen received his Doctorate of Medicine from National Taiwan University. He completed both his residency and fellowship at Long Island College Hospital in Brooklyn, NY, and earned his Master's of Public Health at Harvard University.
Hingson M. Chun, MD joined Straub in April, 2003. He is board certified in cardiovascular medicine and internal medicine. His special interests include advanced cardiac rhythm management including implantation of pacemakers, defibrillators and invasive electrophysiologic procedures. Dr. Chun received his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Hawai‘i , John A. Burns School of Medicine. He completed his residency at the University of Michigan. Dr. Chun completed fellowships in cardiac electrophysiology and cardiovascular medicine at Stanford University. (King Street & Pali Momi Medical Center)
Wesley J. Kai, MD, FACC joined Straub in 1991. He is board certified in cardiology, interventional cardiology, and internal medicine. His special interests include diagnostic and interventional cardiology, and pacemakers. Dr. Kai received his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Hawai‘i , John A. Burns School of Medicine. He completed his residency at Washington University in St. Louis, MO and his fellowship at UCLA. (King Street & Kailua-Kona)
John P. Kristofich, MD, FACC joined Straub in 2001. He is board certified in cardiology and internal medicine. His special interests include interventional cardiology and early detection of cardiovascular disease. Dr. Kristofich received his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, Piscataway, NJ. He completed his residency at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, PA, and his fellowship at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA. (King Street)
Lorelei Joyce Repique, M.D., FACC, returned to Straub in 2009. Dr. Repique is board certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease. Her special interests include invasive and interventional cardiology. She received her Doctorate of Medicine from Loma Linda University School of Medicine. She received her internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Loma Linda University Medical Center. Dr. Repique completed two fellowships, one in Interventional Cardiology at Sequoia Hospital and the other in Clinical Cardiology at California Pacific Medical Center
